2nd Ex-Winthrop worker charged

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) – A second former Winthrop University employee has been accused of misusing the South  Carolina’s school’s funds.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported that 55-year-old David William Rentschler of Rock Hill was arrested Monday and  charged with breach of trust of more than $5,000.

A State Law Enforcement Division warrant says Rentschler is charged with the misuse of about $20,000 in proceeds from the sale of scrap metal.

A Winthrop police report says school officials discovered “significant discrepancies” in the sale of surplus materials.

Rentschler had worked in the facilities management department.

It was unclear if he had an attorney.

Last week, George Robert Walker was charged with breach of trust in the misuse of a university credit card totaling more than $209,000 in damages.
