Sumter celebrates ties with Army, Air Force
SUMTER, S.C. (AP) – Downtown Sumter is holding a block party to honor Army and Air Force service members.
Shaw Air Force Base officials say the Friday evening event is the ninth annual party organized by the community and military installation.
The Air Force will display firefighting equipment, bomb disposal robots, military training vehicles and inert weapons to show how airmen train and arm their F-16 Flying Falcon jets.
Members of the Third Army who are moving their headquarters to Shaw will host a display on the work they do on duty in the Mideast and Central Asian regions.
Misty Hatfield of Shaw’s 20th Force Support Squadron says the event celebrates the partnership between the military and civilians.
