Clemson restricts frats, sororities over alcohol

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) – Clemson University is restricting activities of fraternities and sororities because of concerns about alcohol arrests.

Multiple media outlets reported the restrictions come after a meeting between students and Clemson vice president for student affairs Gail DiSabatino.

DiSabatino says the restrictions are regrettable, but necessary for student safety. The statement issued Sunday did not provide details of alcohol arrests.

School officials say sororities and fraternities will be able to participate in homecoming week activities such as Tigerama skits and working on parade floats this week.

The leaders of Clemson’s fraternities and sororities issued a statement saying the restrictions come because of the problem of underage drinking, alcohol abuse  and unsafe pledging activities.
