Aiken daycare owner arrested in death

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) – An Aiken daycare owner is charged with homicide by child abuse after authorities say she shook a 16-month-old  boy in her care.

The State Law Enforcement Division says 51-year-old Elouise Taylor was arrested Thursday at her home where she runs the daycare.

Investigators say the boy died on Aug. 6 from brain injuries caused the day before.

An arrest warrant says medical workers determined the child’s injuries were caused before his mother picked him up.

A woman who answered the phone at the daycare says Taylor did not shake the child and the injuries must have happened after he left the daycare. She identified herself as Taylor’s daughter, but ended the call when asked her name.

Taylor is in jail awaiting a bond hearing. It wasn’t immediately known if Taylor has an attorney.
