Lawmaker Crawford indicted on tax charges
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – The South Carolina Legislature’s only physician is facing a court appearance on charges tied to late income tax payments between 2004 and 2007.
Attorney General Henry McMaster on Monday released indictments against state Rep. Kris Crawford that say he intentionally failed to file quarterly estimated tax payments and timely income tax returns.
A hearing on the case is scheduled for December.
The Florence Republican was charged in April with failing to file personal income taxes when due for tax years 2004 to 2007.
Crawford said the hearing on the misdemeanor charges is just part of the process. He said he paid an accountant to watch over tax payments and relied on the accountant’s advice.
