Columbia’s Own Hootie & The Blowfish Honored

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – When four students at the University of South Carolina met and formed a band in the 1980’s, they had no idea they would sell millions of records nationwide.

Fast forward to 2010, and Columbia’s own, Hootie & The Blowfish are honored with a permanent reminder of the band’s success and legacy.

In Columbia’s Five Points area Thursday, the group was honored with a huge abstract statue and a road sign bearing its name.  Santee Avenue in Five Points is now known as Hootie & The Blowfish Boulevard.  All four band members greeted a cheering crowd and offered many thanks for the commemoration.

The project was made possible by the City of Columbia, the Five Points Association and Time Warner Cable.
