City has fourth city manager in 3 months

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The city of Hardeeville has a new acting city manager — the fourth person to hold the post in three months.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports city council has hired Carey Smith as acting manager. Smith recently retired after eight years as the Rock Hill city manager.

He replaces city attorney David Tedder on Saturday. Tedder took the post last month after interim manager and finance director Dennis Averkin left for a job in Walterboro.

Averkin was on the job less than a month, taking over after Ted Felder resigned in January.

Smith will serve until a permanent manager can be hired.
