LaKya Brookins–Fastest Woman in the World

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The fastest woman in the world runs for the University of South Carolina. LaKya Brookins ran a 7.09 in the 60 meters last Saturday to win her 2nd national championship. That time is the fastest woman’s 60 meter time in the world in 2011. Brookins said she never thought she would earn the title “fastest woman in the world,” but it was always something she dreamed about.

Despite multiple opportunities to turn pro, Brookins is staying at USC and will participate in the outdoor track season. The Seneca High School graduate says earning a college degree is very important to her and her family.
