Ridgeland employee accused of embezzling $118,000

RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina state police say they have arrested a former employee of the town of Ridgeland for allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars in public funds.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said Thursday 34-year-old Mandy Lynn Drew had been arrested and charged with embezzlement of public funds.

State police say Drew is accused of stealing about $118,000 from the town while she worked for the Ridgeland Water Department.

Police say the money went missing between April 2009 and January of this year.

It was not immediately clear if Drew had an attorney or how long she had worked for Ridgeland’s water department.
