Ellington Speaks About Football Decision

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Bruce Ellington is bummed he can’t practice with the USC football team until the summer, but Carolina’s leading scorer in basketball is excited about playing two sports in the SEC. Ellington spoke to reporters Tuesday for the first time since deciding to play both sports. Because of NCAA rules, Ellington has to wait until his entire first school year is complete before playing another sport.

The Monck’s Corner native says Steve Spurrier will allow him to work out with the basketball team when necessary during football season. According to Ellington, USC Head Basketball Coach Darrin Horn wasn’t upset about his decision to play football and basketball.

Ellington led USC in scoring and was named to the SEC’s All-Freshman team. As a senior in high school, he quarterbacked Berkeley High School to a South Carolina AAAA high school football state championship.
