Coroner: Woman died days before body found
GREER, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a Greer woman died of multiple head wounds several days before her body was found in her home.
Deputy Coroner Tom Selfridge said Tuesday that 64-year-old Karen Hughes was likely killed Friday night or Saturday morning.
Officials said they found the woman late Monday morning after a neighbor reported not seeing Hughes since Friday.
Laurens County deputies say they arrested Hughes’ 39-year-old son Monday night after finding him driving his mother’s car, which was missing from her home.
Walker Manning Hughes has been charged with receiving stolen goods. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
Authorities say there were no signs of forced entry at Karen Hughes’ home.
