Charleston County says “no” to I-526 completion

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Charleston County Council has unanimously voted against completing the Interstate 526 expressway through Charleston’s western suburbs.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported the council voted eight-zero Thursday against completing the road, also known as the Mark Clark Expressway.

The state transportation department had proposed a $489 million, eight-mile highway as the last link of the expressway. But hundreds of residents turned out at a public hearing last year protest the project.

After the public hearings, the transportation department had asked the council if they wanted to go ahead with the Mark Clark.
