SHIMMY MOB: Dancers aim to make Belly Dance History record again in 2012, raise funds for Women‘s Shelters February 27, 2012 – Bellydancers Dancers across North America and beyond are gearing up to make Belly Dance History once again all for a great cause. On Saturday, May 12th, “Shimmy Mobs” will be appearing randomly at various locations from coast to coast to promote World Belly Dance Day and help raise funds for Women‘s shelters. “Flash Mobs” (a group of people organized to meet to perform a specified action and then disperse quickly) are nothing new. What makes Shimmy Mob different from regular flash mobs is the three main goals. The primary goal is to promote bellydance and raise awareness of World Belly Dance Day, Saturday May 12th; the secondary goal is to raise funds for local Women‘s and Children‘s shelters in participating communities; the third goal is to acknowledge and promote participating sponsors. Of course, we also aim to entertain! Shimmy Mob represents all styles of Belly Dance and audiences will be treated to a short show full of fun and variety. Shimmy Mob broke the record in 2011 and now aiming to break it again in 2012 by being the largest event of its kind by having a huge geographical territory covered in one day. World Belly Dance Day, Saturday May 12th, is Internationally recognized in the Belly Dance community with events happening all over the world. Shimmy Mob will be promoting local Belly Dance Day events such as free classes, workshops, demonstrations and performances.
