Jared Shaw’s Big Spring

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “It’s not about the money.” You hear athletes say that all the time. While a lot of those same athletes are professionals with millions of dollars in their bank accounts, sometimes the cliche is actually true. That is the case with Jared Shaw. The USC senior walk-on defensive back just wants to earn a chance to travel and play with his Gamecock teammates in 2012. After a standout spring that included several interceptions during scrimmages, Shaw, a transfer from Newberry College, has put himself in position to make his dream of playing for Carolina come true. The Fort Mill native says he would love to earn a scholarship so his mother wouldn’t have to pay his tuition this fall, but earning playing time on the field in the 2012 season would mean much more to him than a free semester of school.
