Gameday: Spurrier Looking for more from Offense

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Coach Steve Spurrier is looking for his wide receivers to have a big night against UAB. And despite running up the best passing numbers in his 7+ seasons in charge of Carolina football with a back-up quarterback last week against East Carolina, Steve Spurrier still wants more from his Gamecock offense. “After reviewing the tapes of the game last week, we didn’t play all that great at all,” Spurrier said at his weekly press conference Tuesday. “We could’ve thrown for 600 yards against ECU if we would’ve been real sharp…It was better than what we usually do, but it wasn’t anything to be bragging about.” Former Lexington High School All-American Shaq Roland caught his first two career passes against ECU. Roland left Tuesday’s practice early. According to his position coach Steve Spurrier Jr., Roland had a stomach bug and will be fine. Spurrier Jr. hopes his wide receivers can have another big Saturday this week. Against East Carolina, 11 different Gamecocks caught a pass. “The more passes you get to throw the more guys get to play,” Spurrier Jr. said after Tuesday’s practice.
