South Carolina to be without 3 players next game

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina will be without three players including starter Lashay Page for its final nonconference contest Saturday against South Carolina State.

Gamecocks coach Frank Martin said Thursday Page’s academic issue hasn’t yet been cleared up and he’ll be unavailable against the Bulldogs. Page is South Carolina’s second-leading scorer at 11.7 points a game. He’s missed the past two contests because of what Martin says is an academic “glitch” he hoped would be cleared up soon.

Martin also says he gave Bruce Ellington some time off after finishing the football season with the Gamecocks. Ellington caught the winning touchdown pass in South Carolina’s 33-28 victory over Michigan in the Outback Bowl last Tuesday.

Martin says freshman forward Michael Carrera also would miss his second straight game with a hip injury.
