SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Arnold Louis recorded his fifth double-double of the year and Savannah State topped Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference-foe South Carolina State 50-46 Saturday night.
Louis had 14 points and 15 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double. No other Savannah State player had more than eight points as the Tigers (13-10, 7-2) shot 34.9 percent (15 of 43), including 5 of 14 from 3-point range.
The Bulldogs (4-18, 0-9) pulled within 47-46 on Matthew Hezekiah’s layup with 33 seconds left, but South Carolina State missed three free throws in the time remaining while Savannah State hit 3 of 4 at the line for the final margin.
The loss was the 15th straight for South Carolina State, and first under new coach Murray Gavin, who took over this week following Tim Carter’s resignation.
