Blowfish Top Owls 10-3

COLUMBIA SC (BLOWHFISH SID) — Friday June 14th, the Columbia Blowfish held host to the struggling (2-9) Forest City Owls, and took the wind right out from under their wings at Capital City Stadium. The Blowfish started the scoring on the night early in the bottom of the second inning as they pushed four runs across, off of three hits. To lead things off, Allen Staton (North Greenville), would reach on an error by the third baseman, the catcher Dylan Kelly (Mizzouri), would single to center, first baseman Ryan Bull singled to left. Following the back-to-back singles, second baseman D.C. Arendas (South Carolina) would send a two RBI double into left field. With runners on second and third, leadoff batter Michael Wilson would send his two RBI double into left centerfield. Staton would go 4-for-5 on the night. The Owls would put one on the board in the top of the third with a lead off single by the short stop Nick Weybright (Dayton). The lead off batter for the Owls, Collin Forgey (Saint Joseph’s), would drive in the first run off of a single to right field. In the top of the sixth the Owls would score one run off of a, Sam Lind (Cumberland), SAC fly to centerfield. In the bottom of the seventh the Blowfish would score three runs, and three more again in the eighth. In the top of the ninth the Blowfish brought in Reliever Derrick Smith (College of Charleston), who would give up the third Owl run off of one hit, a walk, a HBP, and an error. The starter for the Blowfish Friday night was right hander Stuart Pound (USC Beaufort), who tossed seven solid innings giving up two runs off of eight hits, issuing one walk, and striking out seven. Pound picked up his first win of the season, moving him to (1-1). The starter for the Owls Friday was right-hander Ryan Phillips (Missouri), who threw six and a third innings, giving up seven runs, five earned, off of eleven hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Phillips picked up his second loss of the season, bringing him to (0-2). The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Sunday evening, June 16th facing the Florence Red Wolves, with first pitch set for 6:05pm. Gates open at 5pm. With it being Fathers Day, children are invited to play catch on the field with their dads before the game! Bring your ball and glove and come play catch! The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
