USC Looking Into Clowney/Jay-Z Report

(WOLO) — USC is looking into a recent report by Inside The League.com that Jadeveon Clowney will most likely sign with rapper and new sports agent Jay-Z. Clowney reposted the report on his Instagram account with the caption, “You kno we about to turn up. Dream coming true”. That post has since been deleted. USC Assistant Athletics Director Steve Fink says, per athletic department policy, the matter is being investigated. NCAA rules allow athletes and agents to interact, but eligibility would be compromised if an agreement is reached or any money or gifts are accepted by the athlete before the decision to turn professional has been made. Steve Spurrier was asked about the Clowney and Jay-Z situation on ESPN Tuesday afternoon. “All of our conversations (with Clowney) are wait until you have played your last game at South Carolina,” Spurrier said. “When the bowl game is over this coming season he’s free to accept any amount of money anybody wants to give him. But until then he has to be a student-athlete like all the other guys or he’s not going to be eligible. He’s done a good job of knowing that.” Jay-Z recently started Roc Nation sports agency and represents NBA superstar Kevin Durant and MLB all-star Robinson Cano. Clowney, a junior from Rock Hill who won SEC defensive player of the year honors last season, is widely considered to be the top prospect in the 2014 NFL Draft.
