Sun Devils ready for big step against Notre Dame

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State has gotten through a difficult four-game stretch in good shape so far. The final game in this gauntlet offers the 22nd-ranked Sun Devils a chance at history. If Arizona State can beat Notre Dame on Saturday at Cowboys Stadium in Texas, it will become the first program to beat the Fighting Irish and Southern California in consecutive weeks. Thirteen other teams have tried, including the Sun Devils in 1998, but none were able to pull it off. Only two, Michigan State in 1987 and South Carolina in 1993 won the first game, but were blown out in the second. A win would give Arizona State added national exposure, a boost in recruiting within the state of Texas and coach Todd Graham a triumphant return to his hometown.
