Columbia attorney Steve Morrison dies at 64

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Columbia attorney and former mayoral candidate Steve Morrison has died at age 64. Morrison was a partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, where he focused on cases involving technology law, business liability, product liability and securities. Managing partner Jim Lehman says Morrison died early Sunday while on a trip to New York. Morrison was a lead litigator in a landmark school-funding lawsuit brought by rural school districts that claimed South Carolina didn’t give them adequate funding. That case, argued a decade ago, is awaiting a ruling from the state Supreme Court. Morrison was a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was an adjunct professor. He unsuccessfully ran for Columbia mayor in 2009. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
