Construction worker struck and killed on I-26

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 35-year-old construction worker has been killed after an SUV drove through barrels in a construction zone on Interstate 26 in Lexington County. Investigators said Nelson Gutierrez of Miami was struck by the SUV around 11 p.m. Sunday and died a short time later at the hospital. Crews had shut down a lane of I-26 west of Columbia for repairs. Troopers are investigating the crash. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
