Gamecocks Lead Coastal 42-7 At The Half

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — In the first ever meeting between the Gamecocks and Coastal Carolina, Carolina leads the Chanticleers 42-7 at the half. 

Connor Shaw threw for 115 yards and a touchdown on 8 of 11 passing attempts in the first quarter. Shaw added another 39 yards and a touchdown on the ground with 5 carries.

Shaw would be replaced by Dylan Thompson before the first quarter ended and Thompson would throw a touchdown on his first play. Thompson would finish with 97 yards and two touchdowns on 4 of 7 passing attempts.

True freshman Jamari Smith and sophomore Brandon Wilds both added touchdowns on the ground.

Shaq Roland leads all receivers with four receptions and 72 yards. Roland also added a receiving touchdown. Nick Jones and Pharoh Cooper both have receiving touchdowns on the day as well. 

Victor Hampton intercepted Coastal’s Alex Ross in the end zone with three seconds left in the half to get the second turnover of the game.
