Gamecocks’ Staley receives Order of the Palmetto

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — University of South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley has received the state’s highest civilian honor.

Gov. Nikki Haley presented Staley with the Order of the Palmetto on Saturday during halftime of the school’s football game with the University of Florida.

Staley is in her sixth season at South Carolina. She has led the Gamecocks to two 25 win seasons at the school.

During her playing career, the former point guard was a two-time ACC Player of the Year, a three-time Olympic champion and a five-time WNBA all-star.

In September, Staley was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
