Trapp, Bethune-Cookman top S Carolina St. 91-59
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Mikel Trapp scored a career-high 33 points to lead Bethune-Cookman past South Carolina State 91-59 Monday night.
Bethune-Cookman (5-20, 3-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) used a 22-4 run, during which the team hit four 3-pointers, to open up a 24-9 lead with about 9 minutes to play in the first half.
A 3-pointer by Trapp nearly 2 ½ minutes later sparked 13-0 spurt, extending the Bethune-Cookman advantage to 26 with just fewer than 4 minutes before the break.
BCU took a 48-22 lead into halftime and led by as many as 36 in the second half.
Trapp was nearly perfect shooting, making 9 of 10 from the field, 7 of 7 from 3-point range and 8 of 9 from the free throw line.
Malik Jackson added 19 points and Tony Kynard finished with 10 points and five assists in the win.
Jordan Smith paced SCSU (8-14, 4-5) with 10 points.
