No USC Baseball Friday, Doubleheader Saturday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Winter weather continues to cause adjustments to the sports schedule in the Midlands and around the state of South Carolina. Thursday afternoon USC announced adjustments to its weekend 3-game baseball series against Northeastern. The series opener at Carolina Stadium will be pushed back until Saturday when the two teams will play a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m. The series was originally scheduled to start Friday at 4 p.m. Saturday’s second game will start 45 minutes after the completion of game one. Both games will be nine innings. All tickets for Friday‘s and Saturday‘s games will be honored for the doubleheader. Season ticket holders attending both games are asked to bring both tickets to the stadium. Fans with tickets to only Friday’s game may stay for the second contest in the standing room only sections. Fans with tickets to only Saturday’s originally scheduled game may come for the first game of the doubleheader and watch the game in the standing room only sections as well. Sunday’s series finale is still set for 1:30 p.m. as originally scheduled. Clemson baseball announced Thursday it has moved its home weekend series against Maine to Augusta. “Our field is currently frozen and unsafe for play,” said Clemson Associate Athletic Director Kyle Young. The series opener is set for Augusta’s Lake Olmstead Stadium Friday at 11 a.m. The two teams will finish up the series with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Temperatures in the Columbia area Friday are expected to be 25 to 30 degrees below normal for this time of year. According to the ABC Columbia forecast, the high for Friday is 34 degrees. The high Saturday is 48 with a 20% chance of rain. Sunday the temperature is expected to reach 66 with a 40% chance of rain. Clemson baseball rescheduled its midweek home game with Charleston Southern for April 8 at 4 p.m. Several high school playoff basketball games in the Midlands have also been postponed throughout the week.
