FGCU wins 10th straight with 86-72 victory over USC Upstate
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Brett Comer had 22 points and nine assists on Saturday and Florida Gulf Coast won its 10th straight, rolling past South Carolina Upstate 86-72.
Bernard Thompson scored 19 points, including 5-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. FGCU coach Joe Dooley earned his 100th career win as the Eagles (21-7, 11-1 Atlantic Sun) stayed one game ahead of North Florida in the conference standings.
Florida Gulf Coast’s 86 points were a season high with Julian DeBose adding 13 points and Jamail Jones 11.
USC Upstate (20-9, 7-5) trailed by 10 at the break, but FGCU opened the second half with a 14-3 burst to lead 58-37 with 15:36 to go. The Spartans got no closer than 14 points when ShunQuez Stephens capped the scoring.
Ty Greene led Upstate with 31 points, his second 30-point game of the season. Fred Miller added 12.
