Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — On Monday afternoon, the USC Women’s Basketball team was greeted by loud applause and cheers when they returned to Columbia from Tampa, after a heart-breaking one point loss in the Final Four. “They played well, they played hard, they clawed their way through everything they’ve done and they are to be commended for what they’ve done for us here at the University of South Carolina,” said Robbin Moss. “These ladies have worked so hard all year long, it was a great season and they need the support to keep their spirits high,” said Allen Gordon. The Airport hangar was a sea of garnet and black, with dozens of fans decked out in Carolina gear to celebrate the Lady Gamecocks successful 34-3 season. “They played hard, they played great, they were just wonderful representatives of the University and the SEC and we’re so proud of them for going as far as they did,” said Tim Driggers. “I think it’s a tremendous accomplishment.” Players and Head Coach Dawn Staley showed their appreciation to fans by posing for pictures and thanking them for their continuous support. “I’ve never seen anything like what has taken place with the out-pour of support that our fans have given our program,” said Head Coach Dawn Staley. As for next year, fans said they think this season’s success is a sign of great things to come. “We have so many great players coming back, the futures incredibly bright for the team,” said Driggers. “I think Dawn has done an outstanding job as a Coach and building this program up from where it’s been for so many years,” said Gordon.
