Keys wins duel of 20-something Americans at Family Circle
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Seventh-seeded Madison Keys advanced to the Family Circle Cup semifinals, winning the matchup of rising young Americans with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lauren Davis.
The 20-year-old Keys won 11 of the last 13 games in a dominant showing over Davis, a 21-year-old who knocked out top-seeded Eugenie Bouchard here on Wednesday.
In Saturday’s semifinals, Keys will take on fourth-seeded Sara Errani or qualifier Lucie Hradecka, who play later Friday.
Defending champion Andrea Petkovic, the third seed, and fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber also have later matches.
It would be difficult to see anyone slowing down Keys if she keeps playing like this. The Australian Open semifinalist routinely pounded serves in excess of 110 mph at her opponent and, if the ball was returned, shot back groundstrokes that looked even faster.
