Colts solidify defense with 4th-round pick in draft
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis started the final day of the NFL draft the same way it finished Friday night — focused on defense.
The Colts selected safety Clayton Geathers, a 6-foot-2, 208-pound safety from Central Florida in the fourth round, No. 109 overall.
Geathers fills a big need and the South Carolina native could compete immediately for a starting job opposite Pro Bowler Mike Adams. The only other player on the roster with significant starting experience at safety is Dwight Lowery, who the Colts signed as a veteran free agent in March.
General manager Ryan Grigson used both of Friday’s picks on defensive players, too, choosing cornerback D’Joun Smith and end Henry Anderson in the third round.
