Gettleman looks to make it 3 straight playoffs Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — There was some concern when Panthers owner Jerry Richardson hired Dave Gettleman as the team’s general manager in 2013.
Although Gettleman had worked in the NFL for 27 years, he’d never held a position with ultimate power over personnel decisions and or managed an NFL salary cap.
But it’s been so far, so good for Gettleman.
The Panthers have won back-to-back NFC South championships in his first two seasons.
Gettleman believes the team is in good position to make a deeper playoff push as they prepare to report to training camp Thursday at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Gettleman says the key has been not getting emotional about personnel moves, saying “I’m being paid to make tough decisions — and I have had to make some tough ones.”
