South Carolina St. overcomes 5 turnovers to beat UAPB, 35-7

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The South Carolina State defense allowed just 140 total yards to help the Bulldogs overcome five turnovers and beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 35-7 in the 11th annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge at the Citrus Bowl on Sunday.
It was the season opener for both teams.
Quarterback Adrian Kollock capped off South Carolina State’s 12-play, 66-yard opening drive with a 6-yard scoring run to make it 7-0 just more than 5 minutes into the game.
The teams combined for seven punts, four turnovers, four three-and-outs and just 193 total yards in the first half.
The Bulldogs took a 14-0 lead early in the second half when Dondre Brown recovered a Kollock fumble in the end zone.
Three plays later, Tevin Richard picked off a pass from UAPB’s Nolan Sorensen and returned it 18 yards for a score.
Three Golden Lions combined to complete 6 of 29 passes for 38 yards and three interceptions.
