SC State moving exhibits despite reports warning against it

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina State University plans to move some exhibits from its I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium into an engineering building despite recent reports warning against it. The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports Wednesday the university says the exhibits will be housed in an area suitable for displaying the collections. The exhibits are being moved under a university plan to close several buildings. A conservation company and the Chicora Foundation concluded the engineering building was not suitable because of problems with alarm systems, rats and mold and the absence of smoke detectors. The reports were commissioned by the former museum curator who was dismissed last week. A school spokeswoman says those who compiled the reports were not qualified to draw conclusions and calls the reports misleading, reckless and irresponsible.
