Lauryn Hill will headline Famously Hot New Year celebration

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Lauryn Hill will headline the fifth annual Columbia‘s Famously Hot New Year celebration on Dec. 31, city officials announced Thursday. Hill is a five time GRAMMY-winning recording artist and music world icon, best known for her debut R&B-pop solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and songs “Doo Wop (That Thing),” “Ex Factor” and “Everything is Everything,” as well as her popular covers of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” and “Killing Me Softly.” The free event, South Carolina‘s largest free New Year‘s Eve celebration will take place Thursday, December 31 from 6:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. – set at the State House. SUSTO, an alt-Americana band from Charleston, will provide musical accompaniment for Hill. The event will also feature ColorBlind and the Dead 27s. Some past performers include: George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Atlantic Starr, DJ Biz Markie, Kool and the Gang, indie rock star ZZ Ward and the legendary O‘Jays. The event has grown from 20,000 attendees in 2011 to 28,000 guests in 2014.
