Former NC Detention Officer Charged With Providing Drugs To Inmates
ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WCCB) — A former Rowan County detention officer has been charged with providing illegal drugs and tobacco to inmates.
Dwayne Smith became the focus of an internal investigation in December.
Detectives are also investigating to see if Smith allowed inmates to use his personal cell phone inside the detention center.
Smith has been charged with furnishing controlled substance to a prisoner and furnishing contraband to a prisoner.
Smith was arrested Tuesday and is currently in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $15,000.
