I-77 North Lanes Near Columbia Closed for Emergency Repairs
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Workers have closed two lanes on Interstate 77 in Columbia for emergency repairs after the pavement began to crumble.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation said in a news release it hopes to finish the repairs on a 150-foot stretch of the northbound lanes near Shop Road and mile marker 7 by rush hour Thursday afternoon.
The pavement at the site began to crumble Wednesday.
About 65,000 vehicles travel each day in both directions on that stretch of I-77 east of Columbia.
