Vigil Held for Missing SC Marine

HONOLULU, HI (AP) — After days of searching, four life rafts believed to be aboard two military helicopters that collided off Hawaii have been retrieved.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, some of the rafts were inflated, but it’s unclear at this time how that happened.

Rescuers have expanded their search for the 12 missing marines.  22 year old Sergeant Jeffrey Sempler of Woodruff, South Carolina is among the missing.

The community in Spartanburg County is coming together as the search continues.   Friends and family of Sergeant Sempler gathered for a vigil on Monday.    Family members say they remember Sergeant Sempler as an excellent student and dedicated marine.
