The State newspaper in Columbia reports Monday is the deadline for the submission of the rules.

Each agency’s policy must address issues such as who is required to wear a camera, when the camera should be activated and how long footage is stored. Policies should comply with minimum standards set by the training council.

A spokeswoman for the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy says the council has approved polices for between 150 and 175 agencies out of about 320 in the state. Maj. Florence McCants says the academy will offer to help agencies that don’t meet the deadline.

Agencies aren’t required to purchase cameras until they have funding.
