Ex-Guard Admits Smuggling Drugs Into Federal Prison in SC
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A former guard has pleaded guilty to bringing drugs into a federal prison in South Carolina.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says Anthony Jermaine Creech of Blackville pleaded guilty Monday to providing marijuana to inmates at Estill Federal Correctional Institution.
Estill is a medium-security prison. Nettles says while Creech was working as a guard there in January 2015, he delivered one ounce of marijuana to an inmate at the prison.
When confronted by authorities, Creech resigned after admitting to smuggling the drugs and other contraband in exchange for money.
Creech will be sentenced later. He faces up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
