Border Agents Find 1,423 Pounds of Marijuana Stuffed Inside Coconuts
Authorities found more than 1,400 pounds of marijuana in a commercial shipment of coconuts at the U.S.-Mexico Border in Texas, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said Thursday.
Officers discovered a total of 2,486 packages of marijuana concealed inside the coconut shipment — valued at an estimated $285,000 — CBP said in a statement.
The drugs were discovered Monday at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Pharr, Texas, with the help of a canine team.
“Our officers’ ability to use all available resources, combined with their experience, has resulted in numerous discoveries of illegal narcotics,” CBP Port Director Efrain Solis Jr. said in the statement. “We are keeping drugs off our streets, protecting our communities and our vigilance is continuous.”
An investigation is ongoing.
