PENDLETON, S.C. (AP) – Anderson County officials say a local actor has died after falling from a stage and hitting his head prior to rehearsals.

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown said in a statement Thursday that Carl Gingola died from his injuries after taking a fall on Monday at the Clemson Little Theatre in Pendleton.

McCown says Gingola was moving a copier and was stepping backward when he fell from the stage onto the floor just before rehearsal for the upcoming performance of  “You Can’t Take It With You.”

He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The theatre’s website says Gingola was new to the Pendleton theater but had performed in other theatres throughout the Upstate and over 20 roles in Connecticut. He lived in Pendleton with his wife.
