MANCHESTER, N.H. (WCVB) – A Manchester father is facing child endangerment charges after his young children were found in a fly-infested apartment covered in feces, officials said Monday.

Police were called to a Quirin Street apartment at 3:40 a.m. to check the condition of the 26-year old resident and the children residing in apartment.

The reporting party felt the father of two, James Grenier, was in danger of harming himself.

Grenier spoke with police and allowed them to enter the apartment so they could check the condition of his 2- and 4-year-old children.

Officers said they found feces in the bedrooms, as well as the beds the children were sleeping on.

The 4-year-old boy was in a harness attached to his bed, which was covered in both feces and urine, officials said.

Grenier’s 2-year-old daughter was unclothed and also covered in feces inside of her crib, officials said, adding that the fly-infested apartment had food on the counters and piles of human and animal feces scattered throughout.

The children were removed from the home and placed in the care of their grandparents.

Grenier was taken into custody and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of reckless conduct.

He is set to appear in court on Nov. 21.
