SC native directs short film about turbulent father-son relationship to air on TV

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – An Orangeburg native is excited that one of his short films was picked up by a national television network.

AspireTV will air ‘The Portrait’ during its indie film block on Saturday, August 24 beginning at 8 p.m.

Alan Brooks is an award winning filmmaker and is a 2011 graduate of Claflin University.

He recently directed J.D. McCrary music video ‘My Name.’

McCrary is the voice of young Simba in Disney’s reboot of ‘The Lion King.’

‘My Name’ is up for an award at the BronzeLens Film Festival happening now through August 25 in Atlanta, Georgia.

‘The Portrait’ stars Tray Chaney (HBO’s ‘The Wire’ and Bounce TV’s Saints & Sinner) and Dee Dubois (Tyler Perry’s ‘Boo! A Madea Halloween’ and ‘Boo2!’)
