Body Of Man Found Dead In Canal Identified

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) _ Berkeley County authorities have released the name of a Lexington County man killed after he jumped from a bridge support into a canal. Coroner Bill Salisbury said Monday the victim was 24-year-old William Troy Lee, Jr. of Cayce. A diver recovered Lee’s body from Tailrace Canal on Sunday night. Salisbury says someone called 911 and said a man had jumped from a bridge support under the U.S. Highway 52 bridge. Witnesses said the man surfaced once before disappearing beneath the surface. Sheriff’s deputies, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad, the state Department of Natural Resources and Santee Cooper Law Enforcement searched for the man. Salisbury says the death has been ruled an accident.
