Man charged in wreck that killed NC biker

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — A former Myrtle Beach police officer has been charged in a wreck that killed a North Carolina motorcycle rider. Forty-nine-year-old Rocky Lane Huneycutt of Albemarle, N.C., died Tuesday night after his motorcycle was involved in a crash with a truck in North Myrtle Beach. Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick says Huneycutt died from head and chest injuries. Sixty-two-year-old Larry Dennis Hardee is charged with felony driving under the influence with a death. Hardee also is charged with failure to yield the right of way. It wasn’t clear if Hardee has a lawyer. City records show Hardee was a Myrtle Beach police officer for 21 years before retiring in 1996. Two bikers have died during the Cruisin’ the Coast Spring Bike Rally, which started Friday. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved.)
