Berkeley High football player drowns

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) — A Berkeley High School football player has drowned in Lake Moultrie.

Nineteen-year-old Rahkeem White drowned Monday, the second player from the school to die in the past year.

White had graduated June 3 and was planning to attend St. Augustine College in North Carolina to play football.

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury says White jumped from a diving board at Somerset Point on the lake shortly after 6 p.m. Monday and never surfaced. Salisbury says White’s friends thought he had gone under the dock. He says a short time later, an off-duty lifeguard and bystander pulled White to the surface and he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another star player, D.J. Weathers died in a wreck last year.
