Senate takes up governor’s agenda plans

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina senators are debating a measure that will decide whether Gov. Nikki Haley’s restructuring agenda is discussed.

Sen. Gerald Malloy of Darlington said Tuesday it would take too much time to take up Haley’s measure and it should not be added to the agenda.

But Senate Rules Committee Chairman Larry Martin of Pickens said the measure needs to be addressed before lawmakers go home next week.

The support of 31 of the Senate’s 46 members would be needed to add Haley’s plans for a Department of Administration to the list of bills that can be discussed before adjournment.
