Thieves pose as construction workers to rob in SC

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Spartanburg County deputies say a man is posing as a construction worker to lure elderly residents out of their homes while his accomplice goes inside and steals items from their homes.

Authorities are investigating four recent break-ins involving victims between 73 and 88 years old.

Investigators say one of the men arrives in the evening, knocks on the door and says he just installed zoning stakes or fiber optic lines on the property and needs to show them to the homeowner.

Once the homeowner goes outside, the other man runs in and steals money, jewelry, medication and other items.
