Victim’s Family Speaks, Suspect Faces Judge

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The parents of an 18-year-old severely assaulted and robbed of his cell phone in Columbia’s Five Points, speaks about the crime. Parents, John and Vicki Strange, say the suspects may ask God for forgiveness but right now, they cannot forgive. They came face to face in bond court Friday with one of the eight teenage suspects accused of beating and robbing their son, 18-year-old Carter Strange. Columbia Police say it happened around 12:15 a.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Blossom Street. Police say Strange was jogging through a parking lot in Five Points when he was viciously attacked and robbed of his cell phone. 19-year-old Tyheem Henrey stood before a judge today. His bond has been set at $750,000. Seven other juveniles also faces charges. The family says the beating was so severe, the victim required emergency brain surgery to remove a clot. He also underwent a second surgery Friday to reconstruct his face.
