Lexington deputies train for helicopter rescues
LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies in Lexington County are hoping practice makes perfect when it comes to using the department’s helicopter for water rescues.
Sheriff James Metts says he hopes his deputies’ training Wednesday afternoon using the helicopter, marine paramedics and short-haul equipment will help with future rescues on Lake Murray, the Saluda River or in flooded areas.
Metts says the department also has a basket that could be tethered to the helicopter to transport injured people to the hospital.
On Tuesday, Lexington deputies practiced using the department’s fire rescue boats on Lake Murray.
